Socioeconomic inequalities in health are substantial in the Netherlands. Over the last few years, the government has done little to reduce these inequalities. Recently the Dutch Minister of Health, Welfare and Sport proposed a new plan, which we compare with the recommendations of the WHO Commission on Social Determinants of Health. We conclude that much more could be done to reduce health inequalities in the Netherlands.
